Georgia-Pacific announces volunteer recognition contest
Georgia-Pacific is rewarding individual acts of community service through its “Tips the Hat” contest. Community volunteers living in southeast Georgia communities where the company has operating facilities will be chosen to direct up to $4,000 in contributions from the Georgia-Pacific Foundation to local charities.
The contest gives residents of Camden, Chatham, Effingham and Glynn counties a chance to “tip their hat” to a deserving community volunteer by nominating that person at www.gptipsthehat-ga.com. Georgia Pacific will make one $2,500 donation to a charity on behalf of the winning recipient selected from nominations submitted from all four counties. There also will be second- and third-place volunteers recognized who can direct donations of $1,000 and $500, respectively, to an organization.
“The Georgia-Pacific Tips the Hat contest reinforces the importance of community involvement and lets engaged local citizens channel the donation to a deserving organization,” said Carrie Thompson, public affairs manager for Georgia-Pacific’s Savannah River Mill. “In addition to the 6,900 jobs Georgia-Pacific provides in Georgia, we’re proud to support our local communities in another direct and positive way.”
A Georgia-Pacific committee in Atlanta will judge nominations based on four components: dedication of the nominee, creativity, originality, and compelling nature of the story. The winner may direct the $2,500 donation to the local chapters of a select group of prominent national charities, or to a local school or emergency medical services organization of the winner’s choice. The contest ends August 14, 2012, and details can be found on www.gptipsthehat-ga.com.
“Georgia-Pacific’s Tips the Hat contest will not only impact our communities directly, but by spotlighting leaders it can inspire others to do good works,” said Bonnie Dixon, executive director of the United Way Effingham Service Center, who also was featured in a local Georgia-Pacific print advertisement. “This effort is another way we benefit from Georgia-Pacific’s presence here.”
