Luke Lytle of Atlanta has recently become President of the Southern Investment Association at Georgia Southern University. In his junior year, Luke actively manages a team of 30 analysts in overseeing a value-based investment fund. This fund is part of the school’s endowment.
The Southern Investment Association (SIA), founded in 2014, is a select group of Georgia Southern University students who actively manage the Praevolo Investment Fund. The student-managed Praevolo Investment Fund allows the members of the SIA to obtain real world investment and portfolio management experience while in college by applying investment skills they have learned in the classroom.
“It was a real honor to be selected as president of the association,” says Luke, “because it’s made up of so many serious and enthusiastic people.” Luke and other members of the group regularly put in 10 hours each Saturday doing research and picking stocks. “We have a very strong work ethic.”
Currently, the SIA has 30 members and more than 105 alumni, some of whom have obtained positions at well-known companies such as PIMCO, Capital Group, Invesco, Fidelity, Deloitte, Voya Investments, Steve H. Powell & Company, Fitch Ratings, AT&T, E*Trade from Morgan Stanley, KPMG US, Vanguard, FIS, RSIC, and Fisher Investment just to name a few.
Luke’s interest in finance and investment management came via a growing interest in holistic well being. “I believe that mental, physical and spiritual health are important and achievable for everyone. The financial aspect of life makes all three of the others possible, and my goal is to be the person who helps others reach their lifelong goals by being strong financially.”
Practicing what he preaches, Luke’s belief in physical wellbeing has led him to become a certified personal trainer. “It’s been good for my health, and it helps me in coaching people on their finances,” he says. “Financial and physical coaching are a lot alike. Everyone is at a different starting point, and everyone has different goals they want to reach.”
Excited about the future, Luke intends to be the best steward of the SIA that he can be. “I also look forward to a career in the finance business after I graduate,” he says.
